Welcome to Edinburgh. Two hundred years ago it was the home of the Scottish Enlightenment, when the likes of Adam Smith, the father of economics, philosopher David Hume, poet Robert Burns mixed with great scientists and engineers. Today, Edinburgh, a former winner of the GBEA entrepreneurial city of the year, is host to a new enlightenment, an enlightenment in entrepreneurship.
Maybe it is because its size — the centre of Edinburgh for all its fame and beautiful architecture is relatively small, creating a real sense of community. Perhaps its architecture and history inspires entrepreneurs to create. Or maybe it’s, the City’s six universities, many world-leading in their specialities. Let’s face it; creativity is not new to the City; after all, in addition to its role in the Enlightenment there is the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
Whatever the reason, Edinburgh boasts a dynamic and diverse entrepreneurial scene. With multiple accelerators and close links between universities and business; Edinburgh is an entrepreneurial centre extraordinaire.
